T-08Free calculator

Fillet weld calculator.

Weld metal per metre, consumables and welding hours for structural fillet welds by leg size and process.

Efficiency and deposition rate fill in with typical values for the process; overwrite them with your consumable data sheet and measured operator factor.

Method

How it's calculated.

A mitre fillet weld with equal legs z has a cross-section of z² ÷ 2, plus an allowance for convexity:

kg/m = z² ÷ 2 × (1 + convexity) × 7 850 ÷ 106

An 8 mm fillet is 32 mm², or about 0.25 kg/m before convexity. Consumable required is weld metal ÷ deposition efficiency; arc time is weld metal ÷ deposition rate; welder time is arc time ÷ operator factor.

Beyond the calculator

Need it fabricated or installed?

Drawings, a bill of quantities or a description of the problem. An engineer reviews every enquiry and comes back to you directly.
