Pipe weight calculator.
Mass per metre and total weight of steel pipe by NPS and schedule, or any OD and wall, with optional water contents.
How it's calculated.
Mass per metre of a circular pipe is the cross-sectional area of the wall multiplied by the material density:
m = π × (OD − t) × t × ρ ÷ 106 [kg/m]
with OD and t in millimetres and ρ in kg/m³. For carbon steel this simplifies to the familiar (OD − t) × t × 0.02466. Water contents add π/4 × ID² × 1 000 ÷ 106 kg/m, where ID = OD − 2t.
NPS outside diameters and wall thicknesses follow ASME B36.10M for carbon steel pipe. Weights exclude fittings, flanges, coatings and insulation.
